Many professionals are increasingly choosing to move to other countries from their native one in order to work. The BBC did an article on four professionals who had moved to Abu Dhabi, India, Malaysia, and Sweden to see how they were finding living and working abroad. The one thing that unites all of them, and most professionals who go abroad to work, is the desire to experience something slightly different from home.
Veronique Briquet-Laugier, a French-born scientist, decided to move to the French embassy in Delhi to boost cooperation between Indian and French scientists. Briquet-Laugier explained, “I wanted to get away from Old Europe. It is going to sleep. India is a dynamic economy and an exciting one”. Initially Briquet-Laugier enjoyed the move: “My first impressions were above my expectations. I was expecting it to be less developed – not in science because they are very advances – but the airport and shopping malls were far better than I was expecting. But then I found it chaotic. I thought: ‘What is this – I want to kill someone.” Oh dear, sounds like place where you need your herrenuhren to hand all the time.
